of Orestis P. Kyrtsis
«Telephonic Unconscious II»
Opening day: Friday 15 May 2026, 18:00-22:00
Open to the public until Saturday the 6th of June 2026
The painter notes about his work:
The “Telephonic Unconscious” are living cells, reproducing through automatic writing of associations that become symbolised. They emerge amid non-creative occupations—such as telephone conversations—and require neutral time in order to mature. Despite their repetitive, “trademark” self-referential signals, they progressively acquire the character of a mapping not only of personal but also of collective neuroses. With the contribution of the unconscious licence of dreams, yet at the same time with an uncompromising materialism, they construct the contradiction of a surreal landscape with miraculous extensions, woven, nevertheless, from real materials.
The works are perpetually at risk of slipping away from the initially agreed convention of unconscious automatism that governs them, and of ultimately being defined by the intervention of aesthetic judgement—something that is already beginning to occur here. They nevertheless demand to remain sincere and untainted—perhaps having matured into a form of self-awareness they have themselves attained.
